Japan är en av de äldsta och mest kända tatueringskulturerna i världen. Tatuering eller irezumi i Japan kan spåras tillbaka till cirka 10 000 f.Kr. Genom tiderna har tatueringens plats i det japanska samhället fluktuerat – till stor del på grund av dess koppling till organiserad brottslighet. Idag har tatuering i många delar av Japan gått under jorden och artisterna måste vara extremt hemlighetsfulla om processen.
Hursomhelst finns det 2018 hundratals tatuerare som specialiserar sig på traditionell eller modern japansk tatuering – och vi ska visa dig tio av dem. Dessa konstnärer kommer från hela världen, bland annat från New York City, Los Angeles, Taiwan och Kina.
